If you need a new air compressor you will find there are different types available. Because of this, you may be confused as to what type would be best for you. To help you, here are two types to choose from to ensure you purchase the right air compressor.

Electric Air Compressor

The electric air compressor is the most common type used. This is because it is convenient as you only have to plug it into an electrical socket in order to power the compressor. Electric air compressors are also generally less expensive when compared to gas air compressors. Electric air compressors are also generally much lighter as there is no gas tank involved. When the air compressor is full of gas this makes it even heavier. You can purchase electric air compressors in a variety of sizes and styles. Electric air compressors are also much easier to turn off and on as you only have to flip a switch.

The main thing to consider is if you will have electrical power where you will be using the air compressor. It will not work with extension cords but instead has to be plugged directly into the electrical outlet.

Gas Air Compressor

Instead of electric-powered air compressors, you can purchase air compressors that are powered by fuel. The main thing with this is you have to ensure you always have enough gas on hand just in case you run out while you are using the air compressor. You do not have to worry about having electric power anywhere, however, which is beneficial if you have to constantly use the compressor where there are no electrical outlets around. With a gas air compressor, you simply keep the tank full to keep the air compressor running. 

In order to start up a gas air compressor a pilot unloader valve is used. On the gas air compressor there will be an open and closed position marked. To start up the gas air compressor, the pilot valve is turned to the open position. You then turn the engine switch on and pull the recoil. You also have to adjust the pressure as needed when running the air compressor. As you can see there is much more involved when starting up a gas air compressor.
